The eastern side of the scheme and the new roundabout here have progressed in recent weeks with the installation of kerbing on going. Following on from this we will progress with the laying of the pavement in the offline portion. The next stage of construction will be to construct the realignment of the existing N59 onto the new route.

This will require numerous phases of Traffic Management arrangements to facilitate the different stages of the Construction. These are planned to commence from Tuesday the 7th of February 2023 and the overall duration of the various phases are planned to take nine weeks, which run to the 14th of April 2023. Whilst much of the works requiring single lane traffic have being achievable working ‘inter-peak’ , and removing the traffic management at peak traffic times – this is not possible owing to the differences in geometry between the existing and new alignment.

We have designed the Traffic Management to minimize the length of the section’s single lane traffic, thereby minimizing the duration of the wait times thereby reducing queuing times.

The first phase to be implemented will involve the reduction to single lane immediately east of the bridge at Clydagh for approximately 200m as per Figure 1.

Fig 1 Phase 1

During this phase of Traffic Management we will construct part of the new alignment of the lower level to allow traffic to be diverted down to the new round about.

The Second Phase will involve single lane traffic immediately west of the Clydagh Bridge along the new alignment to roundabout as per Figure 2.

Fig 2 Phase 2

The traffic will travel on the new alignment out to the east side of the current Clydagh Junction as shown in Figure 3. With the current junction at Clydagh extended to meet the new alignment and providing access for the Clydagh road. We are carrying out a letter drop and visiting each of the houses directly within the Traffic Management over the coming days.

Fig 3 Phase 2

Phase 3 will then commence, at this stage the single lane traffic in the vicinity of Clydagh will be completed and two-way traffic will flow to and from the roundabout, as per Figure 4.

Fig 4 Phase 3

At this stage single lane traffic will be implemented from approximately Connemara Motors/Clydagh Road Junction for 200m towards Galway. See Figure 5.

Fig 5 Phase 3

This will allow the construction of adequate width to divert two-way traffic onto the partially constructed new N59 along this section.

The Three Phases described above are planned to be completed over five weeks. We will provided further information of Phases 4 and 5 prior to their implementation as well as updates on the progress of the works over the period.

We apologize for the inconvenience in respect of the above. We request adherence to the signed speed limits and traffic controls in order to ensure the safety of both the road users and our workforce.
